As a diabetic, can I still eat my favorite snacks in small portions if I watch my weight?

I've had diabetes for a few months and constantly monitor my blood sugar for surges. I want to transform my food choices. My friend suggested that I try meal planning to jump-start my weight loss. I enjoy dried fruit snacks in small amounts and wonder if they would reverse my progress.
