Does anyone know if metabolism changes with age or is that a myth?

Asked a year ago

I am growing a bit older (who isn’t!) and I’ve been having a little bit of a tough time with my metabolism. I used to have such a fast metabolism when I was younger, but it seems that went away! Does metabolism actually change as you age?

Yes, as we age our metabolism (the amount of energy or calories our body uses to maintain itself) does indeed begin to slow down. Our metabolic rate will peak in our 20s, but from our 30s we will start to notice that it is becoming a bit harder to lose weight. So I'm afraid it is not merely a myth. But with a healthy diet and regular exercise, there are ways of mitigating the effects of our metabolism slowing down.
