I was wondering. seeing how I have 2 kids that are allergic to dairy and soy milk. Would I be able to substitute all the milk based products in the recipes with rice milk and non dairy cheeses? Or would that make the recipes turn out different? Thank you Ossie for the information on the sgw it was helpful.

Hi, frowsgetfit. Bravo for getting the whole family involved!
Yes, rye flour is generally whole grain flour. SWG items are found at health-oriented stores, including large chains such as Whole Foods Market and Trader Joe’s, as well as online, i.e. at http://www.foodforlife.com.

My husband and I just recently joined. We are gradually working into it. We have 5 kids under the age of 10 so it is a little more challenging. We have have one kid allergic to dairy and soy and another one allergic to just dairy so some of these recipes are a little more trickier. My main problem is I cant find some of the stuff I need for the recipes. So I just mamage with what I can get. My main question is that I am looking for whole grain flour. Is Rye flour considered whole grain?? Where can I find sprouted whole grain?? We are optimistic to this program and are happy that we have decided to make a change now. We are glad that we found a program that is so helpful..

Hi, Rita. I’m not sure I understand the question – if you “can’t get to” the snack, you can still get to another type of snack? You can, of course, substitute – as long as the same food groups and portion sizes are represented, and you mix your protein with carbs.
However, most commercial cereals (including Special K, unfortunately) and protein bars are quite processed and high in sugar and sometimes sodium, and therefore not sufficiently supportive of weight loss/health maintenance efforts. If you like cereals, try those you would find at a health-oriented store, and read the ingredients to be sure there aren’t undesirables in there (i.e., anything that looks like a chemical, other than vitamins and minerals, high amounts of sugars above 22 grams per serving and sodium above 140 mg per serving). Organic is often best, because then there is also a lower chance of genetically modified ingredients.
Similar story with the protein bar – check out Pure Bar as an example of the type of ingredient list the Club favors (there are other good brands out there, of course).
Don’t worry, the label-checking inconvenience won’t last long – you’ll find something you like and that will be it, and even if you want to make a switch, you will be able to know quickly what is good.

I have one question. I can’t always get to that 2nd snack of the day. Especially when it is edamame with 3 other things. Is it ok to just have a protein drink
( Special K ) or a protein bar?

LUCKYLADYKY….thankyou for your comment. You will be sleeping right now, and will get this while I am sleeping I assume. Yes you are right about the CPap machine….yesterday I changed masks, so now I have one similar to what you have described, which worked much better last night…thank you Lord! When I finish my trial in a couple of week, I am sure I will be choosing the same type. I do hope you have success with Trim Down…I will be here for the rest of my life I think!!! Lol….
KATIE….I am a light sleeper too, and I have been at my husband for years to change rooms because of the early morning traffic noise…but he just sleeps through it of course. We are endeavouring to finish painting our guest room soon, and he has finally decided (lol) that it would be a good idea to move into that room, and make our larger room the guest room…we can fit another bed in there, so we will make it a trundle bed! Amazing…my idea for years!!! Lol…..
Happy sailing everyone…and I will catch you up on deck later..probably tomorrow! Bev.

Seaborngirl, I’m assuming your mask problem is with a CPap machine and if so you might want to check out the small nose cushions instead of a mask. I use one and have the nose cushions and they work great for me. I do have to put on a chin strap so my mouth won’t drop down but it doesn’t bother me at all. I’m starting my diet program today and find it is way too mauch food for an old lady with limited exercise so I’ll just eat till full and keep at it. Sort of have to change the schedule of the meals somewhat since hubby and I lie down after lunch for a nap so I had my snack at lunch time and will have lunch at 2nd snack time. I”ll see how hungry I am at dinner and go from there.

Don’t you just love Mondays? I feel invigorated at the beginning of every new week! I guess I can’t be considered a newbie anymore, because I have been totally converted to this program! I have a very, very stubborn metabolism, so the weight is coming off very slowly for me, but I almost (and I stress almost) don’t care about that because of all of the other benefits. I had two hips replaced and after being on this program, I can finally go up the stairs without feeling like I need additional support! The muscle is back, and it has taken five years! I give credit to this program because I am finally feeding my body nutrition!

Nora, I am diebetic too, and I truly believe our meds resist weight loss, but this program is taking me in the right direction, although I’ve only lost 5 pounds since January 28. Most others on here are losing much more and faster than me. Be patient, you’re going to feel better!

Bev…I hate being tired! I hope you get that mask thing figured out! Just going onto daylight savings time has disrupted my sleep! I’m such a light sleeper, I can’t even sleep in my master bedroom because the street traffic wakes me up, so I sleep in the guest room! lol Good luck!

No school this week! Yea! I’m ready to cook up a storm this week with healthy recipes. I think the recipes from this program is a gold mine of information, yummy information! I made the Creme Brule French Toast on Sunday and was mad about it! It is so good. I made just half a recipe, had my one slice and froze the other two slices. Now I’ll have it ready for a meal later on this week.

I got some catching up to do because my life has been so busy lately…like needing to read my last three newspapers! lol I guess the world will continue if I don’t get to them!

Keep motivated, be grateful, and SMILE! This week is going to be our best yet, right? 🙂 Hugs!

Hi, Radisson. Let’s see; how do you spell that? E..X…E…R…C…….. Hey, I’m walking at number three for 15 minutes every morning at least. Still can’t bring myself to go to the gym. I’m afraid to do more damage to this old body. The muffin top is desappearing just by watching portions of whatever I eat and laying off the daily five o’clock cocktail. I still have a problem remembering to eat though. I’ve always been notorious for going most of, if not all of the day, without getting hungry. As a side benefit from having that bad cold/bronchial infection the end of last month, my taste buds are practically gone. Everything tastes the same so at least now I am not over eating because….”It tastes soooooooo good!”

Hi everyone….
RADDISON…thanks for your encouragement mate…I am trying to hang in there, and I know I will, but I am just so tired right now I haven’t got the energy to do anything…and food is not something I care much for at present. My daughter drove me into town today (because I am so tired and can’t stop yawning and my eyes from watering) to change the mask, and I have finally got a small one that just goes over the nose! We’ll see how that goes!!! Hopefully that is all I need, and I can get past this stage!
PPEDDLE…praying for you…we never know what is around the corner hey? I do believe that God closes a door and opens a window….definately.
All the NEWBIES…all the best onboard the cruise…
And all the others…you know who you are…keep up the good work. I have so much work to do around the house…will be in touch later.Bev.

Hi Everyone,

I’m Ange”lean”a–or at least I hope to be! I just joined the program moments ago and have been reading some of your posts. Its heartwarming to see the support and inspiration you all offer and I look forward to learning and ‘losing’ with you. I fell ill a few years ago and five years later, after a double mastectomy and too many meds–I am weaned and clean–but have 35 extra pounds on my frame I’d be very happy to unload. @Kjean–what is this iPhone app of which you speak? @ppeddle: I will keep you in my prayers and wish you the best of success as you move forward–May you find peace, structure and the routine of your dreams…

Radisson 13 years ago

ppeddle: I have been where you are now and understand how you feel. Stick to what you know best, trust yourself. No use stressing over things that are out of your control. Do your best!

jackiee: One more week and we join the Canadian Geese in Florida for a whole month…

apensa: Welcome back try a little harder this time. Give it a chance you will feel so much better. Muffin top will disappear over time if you keep exercising.

Seaborngirl: Don’t quit now, good luck with new mask!

ginnerlou: Thanks for the recipes!

Just actually started yesterday. Been reading and researching and shopping for a few days. Some of this stuff I have never heard of. Thanks goodness for the Internet. Still not sure about Kamut ??? I did eat goat cheese for the first time today. Why have I been missing out on that. LOL I started with the 4 day plan. My biggest problem so far is eating that much in a day. I’m too full most of the time for the next meal. Nice to read everyone’s post. Glad there is support on here to communicate with. Good Luck to us All!!!!!

Hey y’all all the way from Texas! I just finished the menu planner and not feeling very confident about about how I did filling it out. Since Sept. 2012 I have lost 40 lbs., giveing a lot of credit to following the diabetic diet I should have been following. I don’t know if any of you have diabetes type II, but watching and counting what goes in your mouth is difficult, as you know. I have also introduced flax seed and nuts to my diet, heavy on processed flax. It goes in just about all I eat. I have also have been doing many smoothies with plain yogurt, frozed friut, flax, cinammon(sp?) and lots of crushed ice. I will confess, I have also been adding powdered protein which kept me energized as my morning snack. That’s pretty much why I thought I needed a more structured diet program other than WW, 20-30 pills/day, YOU Know What I Mean. From looking at this so far, It looks like something I’ve been looking for and have high expectations for continued weight lose. The one thing that’s hinder me, is that I have severe rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia and severe osteoporotis. 2 years ago when my symptoms were not as bad, I was waslking 3 miles/day and then the knees and hips started to be my eneny and kept me from doing one thing I really loved. Hopefully the my new IV medication will keep me going and reduce more swelling around all my major joints. Well, I feel I have talked y’alls ear off, and hope someone has a similar story to share. Like the Hungry Girl says “chew the right things”!!Nora

Ossie, thank you so much for your answer, we usually have the large meal at night but now that I know how the system works I will do the biggest in the morning and still do a main meal at night for my hubby whilst I tweak mine to be a smaller meal in the evening.:)
