Hi everyone, slowly getting there with changing one or two things around on my menu sheet.
Jackiee, I have not been a member for very long at all. I am into my 2nd week.
I love my lentils in soup but tried them yesterday boiled in water until soft then I put them on plate and ate them along with the other veges, was ok
Wishing you all a good weekend with lots of success with your eating plans.

I have a similar problem with lentils, dry beans, etc. I just don’t put them into my menus. The weight is slowly going down and as I said before, it is not bouncing up and down 3lbs like it was before TDC. I am so pleased. My hip surgery is March 19 and after recovery I can add some physical activity which for me is aquacise and walking. I am the Jewish woman and have yet to see any Passover suggestions. Good wishes to us all for sharing and doing what is good for us.

Hi, stgeofun. Try sautéing them with chopped onions in sauces that you can make from low-salt soup broths, herbs, and a little cornstarch.

Hi Katie, I only like lentils in soup, but on whole I do try to avoid them because they give me to much wind….sorry if thats to much info. My hubby likes lentils with mushrooms (which are on the free veggie list)and a sprinkle of parmessan!!!otherwise sorry don’t have any other suggestions. Will try the french toast one of these days but I just love my porridge in the morning, and fnd it hard to change from this. Hope you enjoy your weekend before starting back.
I have, sorry angelina has another birthday party tomorrow and then Pizza night followed by sunday lunch at a friends (lasagna) and afternoon tea with family (usually includes ice-cream or cake or both!!!) so I will have to say NO constantly this weekend and\or do a lot of walking and other exercise to make up for the times I didn’t manage to say NO!!!!
Hope everyone has a great weekend….

I’m sorry that I’m taking all the space here, but now I have another question for all of you. I have found the first thing on this program that I really don’t care for, and that is 1 C. of lentils. I put salt and pepper on it, that helped a little, then I put Herb Provence on it, that helped a little more, then fianlly I chopped up my C. of green peppers and put that in it, it was ok. But if someone has a great idea to jazz up the lentils, please let me know! I was able to get them down, but really did not enjoy them. Thanks, Katie

Thanks, Ossie. We must have been posting at the same time. Thanks for your quick response!

Jackie….I did not torch the Creme Brulee with coconut sugar because I didn’t have any, but the orange zest in the recipe really adds a wonderful flavor to the French toast! I topped it with fresh strawberries and it was delicious. This morning I took out one of the ones I had frozen, heated it in my microwave and it was just as good the second time around! Give it a try. I think you’ll like it! Have a great day!

Hi, stageofun. If you don’t have reasons to avoid the gas, there is no difference.

Ossie,
I question for you…Is mineral water better for you than drinking the Club Soda with lime or lemon? I don’t drink the Club Soda often, but it is a nice change for a snack now and then.
Thanks for all your help!

Good morning all, thanks Katie the headache is better, reduced to the feeling a little fuzzy so hopefully the fresh air will clear it up. Got to ask did you do the blow torch part of the cremè brulè french toast? it looks yummy but I’m a pain french toast girl, have been all my life…bread dipped in egg and milk with seasoning of course then cooked. The version on here sounds like the Ritz version very swishhh. Oh before you think I forgot WOW 7 POUNDS AMAAAZING…never knock it your doing brilliant, following a healthy lifestyle change, not depriving yourself of food and still losing weight! in my book that is BRILLIANT, WELL DONE
VEGEFARMER, I’m sure with your reach your target weight soon, you have such a good attitude and postivity, when did you join the program? sorry didn’t notice, but my weight always yoyo-ed during the first 2 weeks, it wasn’t easy watching it go up at first. Good luck and enjoy your new excerise.
CARTAB…I recommend when doing your weekly menu planner, select simple foods you know at first, take a note of other food items you don’t know and source them in your area then add them to the menu planner. Same with recipes, add them when you feel ready and have the ingredients. When you have a menu for the week, your see a refresh button at the end of each food item, hit this and it will give you alternatives to the particular food item (I used this a lot until I got to now the food groups) Theres also a list of free veggies at the end of the menu planner. If you have any problems just post on here, there always someone around who knows the site well and Ossie the trim down dietition is brilliant at answering your questions. good luck
LaurieJ hope the transition to smaller regular meals helps shift the weight you want to lose soon, good luck.
Hope everyne else is doing well, right off to get wee one to nursery and get my walk done, take care and good luck all, byeee 🙂

Jackie…I have loved being out of school for a week. I got a lot of my spring cleaning done, went to lunch with a friend, and hosted a cooking club tonight (which I prepared healthy foods, and really gave them the low down on this program! lol) They all loved the chicken soup for the gods, and I made a honeyed yogurt blueberry tart, that was also yummy! My favorite recipe this week was the creme brule French toast!
I’m sorry to hear about your headache…I have had only one of those in my life and it felt like someone was hammering my head with a hammer! When ever I stood up, it was very painful. I hope you are feeling better. Sorry to hear that you have a slow metabolism too, but it does give me comfort knowing I’m not the only one!

Bev…how are you mate? lol Do you like my Australian? You are such a cutie, I hope you get things straightened out quickly so that you can get better sleep and feel more energized! You take care, Girl.

I have dropped 7 pounds since the first of Feb. (nothing to brag about), but at least the scale is going in the right direction. I still feel like this is a great program. I’m even getting a bit better at making things in bulk and storing them in the fridge so that I can quickly pull things out and make a healthy meal without having to make a new recipe for every meal.

Probably my favorite treat is SWG bread toasted and spread with an oz. of goat cheese! Yum! Try it you’ll like it!

I appreciate Ossie’s advise about exercise. I exercise six days a week, but it’s the same routine every other day. I’ll have to try mixing it up a little bit and see if that can help get my stubborn metabolism going again.

Well, it is that bewitching hour again when I need to get to sleep. (11:30 PM), a little late to be going to bed, I know, but I had to unwind from the day!

Good Night, Everyone! And keep up the good work!

Thanks Ossie, I will add some cardio, low impact to my daily exercise and do some strength training. I haven’t really been on a restrictive diet, I used WW until I reached goal weight and it is over the last 2 years that I have put it back on and thought I’d try the trim down as it has so much variety to it.
I will cut back on the carbs, I love carbs but they don’t like me and use only fresh fruits and see if this will make a difference.

Hi, VegeFarmer. I ran some calculations, and all seem to add up OK. Assuming the wine is the only change, and that you eat the meals on schedule, a couple of things may be going on. One, your body is so used to the physical activity you have done for years, and so doesn’t recognize it as such. The best way to deal with this is to add a new form of exercise to use different muscles, preferably aerobic – even low-intensity – to complement the start-and-stop type of activity you have now.
Another question – have you been on weight loss diets before? If so, what types? If they were restrictive, it could be that your metabolism has slowed down, which again can be repaired by taking on a new sort of exercise.
And finally, do you have a normal sleep pattern, or do you stay up very late at night? This may also slow down metabolism.
As far as cutting back, the best place to start is carbs, while favoring protein. In the example you posted, I would suggest favoring fresh fruit over dried, and eating it with a source of protein (i.e. moving the egg at dinner to the afternoon snack). Try eating only up to a cup of starch or starchy vegetable (or equivalent) at any meal, i.e. a cup of rice, pasta peas, corn, or 2 slices of bread (so at the dinner you posted, 1/2 cup peas with 1/2 cup of rice).
Do continue to listen to your hunger and satiety signals, and take advantage of the “too full” feeling to pace yourself – again, favor the proteins and also the vegetables.

Ossie, thanks. And vegefarmer, Angeleana, good to hear your perspective. For me, a lot of this process has to do with finding the new balance that will work better for this phase of life. I was an athlete when younger, very lean and energetic, and could eat or drink ANYTHING and not worry about weight. Even through my childbearing 30’s and early 40’s, I could fairly easily lose any excess pounds gained. Not the case anymore; I’ll admit, the “Change” blindsided me! What I am learning in the last few weeks, is that a basic shift in patterns – to smaller, more frequent meals – can make a big difference. A glass of wine at dinner or not is less the issue than the overall pattern, and for each person to find that right balance. Good luck to all of us!
