    • Hi, taracanfield. You can add 1 medium tomato (2.5 inch diameter or 120 grams), but then you’ll need to use cheddar cheese (as pictured) instead of mozzarella and drizzle with two tablespoons of olive oil to ensure the recipe is keto-supportive. HOWEVER, a serving will then be one-third of the recipe, rather than one-half.

    • Hi, deediet. An exchange is a building block for a menu that contains an approximate set of nutritional values based on the corresponding food group. The exchange system is used by nutrition groups around the world to make menu planning easy and to ensure that nutritional needs are met. The following are the general nutritional values of each of the exchanges:
1 carb exchange = 15 grams of carbohydrates + up to 3 grams of protein
1 protein exchange = 7 grams of protein + up to 5 grams of fat
1 fat exchange = 5 grams of fat
1 fruit exchange = 15 grams of carbohydrates
1 vegetable exchange = 5 grams of carbohydrates + up to 2 grams of protein
1 sweet exchange = up to 15 grams of carbohydrates + up to 5 grams of fat
1 free exchange = up to 5 grams of carbohydrates or up to 2 grams of protein or fat
Our Menu Planner application does the calculations for you here, but you can check out your allottment by clicking on “Exchange mode” in the toolbar above your menu, and compare your exchanges to those for servings of our recipes and other foods to fit them into your meals and days as you wish.

    • Hi, lizbeth. At the bottom of the recipe are the “Exchanges per Servings.” The approximate nutritional values of exchanges are as follows:
1 carbohydrate exchange = 15 grams of carbohydrates + up to 3 grams of protein
1 protein exchange = 7 grams of protein + up to 5 grams of fat
1 fat exchange = 5 grams of fat
1 fruit exchange = 15 grams of carbohydrates
1 vegetable exchange = 5 grams of carbohydrates + up to 2 grams of protein
1 sweet exchange = up to 15 grams of carbohydrates + up to 5 grams of fat
1 free exchange = up to 5 grams of carbohydrates or up to 2 grams of protein or fat
This recipe yields per serving about 20 grams of carbohydrates (11 “available”), 18 grams of protein, and 17 grams of fat.
