Hi, Becky. If you’re not hungry, no need to “fight” it (in fat, it’s good that you are in turn with your hunger and satiety signals). Just be sure to push any fruits, vegetables, and calcium-rich foods to the other meals.

Hello again – I was wondering do I have to have a snack each day? There are some days where I am not the least bit snack hungry… I have really cut down on my meal portions and actually have left overs. I still can’t afford many of the things that I have on here – especially the whole grain breads – here that is little over $3 a loaf and the loafs are small. I am on a very strict budget so adding more money to my grocery bill is starting to wear me thin. I have only eaten 1 piece of bread in like 2 wks – cut out 95% of sugars, try to eat meals as they are listed or very close to it and my weight loss is really nothing yet to brag about šŸ™ But, I was wondering if it would hurt too much if I didn’t feel hungry if I could skip a snack or would that be detremental to the program of loosing weight?

Hi beckyrogers,
There’s a widespread myth that eating healthy is more expensive than eating unhealthier processed foods. If you are worried that your grocery list will become more expensive, here are a few tips that will help you reduce the amount of money you spend:
• Try to create a shopping list and stick to it. That way you will not be at risk of buying things you do not need, and over spending.
• Always buy generic or store brands when possible. The quality is often the same—you’re just not paying for advertising.
• Find a good ethnic supermarket. The prices will almost always be better—as will the selection of meat, fish, fruit and vegetables, spices and other seasonings—than at your typical supermarket chain.
• Farmer’s markets cut out the middle man so you can buy very high-quality produce from the farmer. Go at the end of the market and ask for a discount on any remaining fruits and vegetables or bread.
• Plan your cooking to create leftovers. It’s easier to cook just 2 or 3 meals a week, rather than 6 or 7: you can freeze and reheat leftovers. You’ll save time, money and power. You can also go even further and cook for the whole month at once.

I DON’T want to become a VEGAN! I tried that several years ago and hated it…. I am a meat person – we have a lot of chicken in our freezer along with pork. I need recipes that include chicken breasts and pork. We don’t have a lot of beef cause it is too expensive and my husband refuses to do this with me – so I don’t want to have to make 2 evening meals everyday šŸ™ Breakfast, lunch & snacks are fine – but we need something at dinner time for the 2 of us to enjoy – so he doesn’t gripe so much. I don’t mind a salad with my dinner meals and I live in a small community and our store doesn’t carry 1/2 the stuff you have listed on here and most I have never heard of! The farmer’s market is closed till spring. I haven’t eaten bread in a wk cause I can’t find the bread you keep saying I need.. what’s for us poor folks to make? I can’t afford a lot this stuff cause it is expensive here – I am 61 & on Social Security. I need more help. These “snacks” are getting expensive too on my budget!
