![]() | Hi, jameserdahl. Most of what you mentioned you drink actually count as foods, because other than black coffee, they contain significant amounts of carbohydrates, protein, and/or fats – and of course, calories. For your reference, each 1/2 cup of V8 counts as a vegetable exchange, each 1/2 cup of OJ and apple juice (which we discourage unless they are freshly squeezed or cloudy, respectively) counts as a fruit exchange, and each cup of low-fat chocolate milk (which we hope you prepare yourself, rather than buying readymade with preservatives) counts as a sweet exchange – if you make your own chocolate milk, each cup of low-fat milk counts as a protein + a carbohydrate exchange, and you can add “free” pure cocoa (cacao) powder and natural no-carbohydrate sweetener like Stevia and/or erythritol. |
![]() | The plan recommends that I drink 12 1/2 cups of water per day which is fine, but doesn’t include any other beverage recommendations? I typically drink a glass of skim milk with dinner, V8, OJ, apple juice or low fat chocolate milk with breakfast as well as a cup or two of coffee. |
