Hi, useekus. In the very near future, a 14-day vegan express meal plan will be posted for download. In the meantime, in the Menu Planner are a variety of vegan foods that you can select to build a personal plan with a composition (i.e. good fats, antioxidants, low simple carbohydrates) that can support your efforts.

Ossie,

is it possible to provide me with a 14 day Vegan meal plan? Also please advice how do I sign up for the meal delivery plan.

Thanks much.

Yes to microwave and refrigeration. Freezing can be a little trickier than simple refrigeration – if you have never done it before, attached is a link with some tips http://chinesefood.about.com/od/tofurecipes/ht/Freezing-Tofu-How-To-Freeze-Tofu.htm

Thank you again for your valuable info., Ossie. Another Q: Is 15 minutes in the microwave (in a covered dish with a little water to steam it) a good way to neutralize those anti-nutrients? Can I freeze it afterward, or should I just leave it in the fridge?

The anti-nutrient in unfermented soy include trypsin and phytates – these are present in all legumes, but particularly high and stubborn in soy. These are called anti-nutrients because they disrupt absorption of some nutrients and increase the excretion of others. Fermentation (i.e. in miso, tempeh, fuyu, natto, and fermented tofu) is the most reliable method of neutralizing these actions, but extended cooking can also.
Having said that, any sensible diet allows a treat once in a while that is not in line with all of the health principles, and as treats go, yours sounds relatively healthy. What I do at home for things like that (I like to make no-bake “cheese”cake with tofu) is to either make my own tofu from very well-cooked soy milk that I make from organic soy flour, or to cook and then chill ready-made organic tofu (this actually makes it softer and creamier!).

Ossie, thank you for your guidance. Please tell me about the anti-nutrients in tofu. This is new to me. It looks like I will no longer allow myself to eat my favorite dessert: a half cube of tofu right out of the package (rinsed) and a half bag of Trader Joe’s frozen berries (unsweetened and unthawed), all blended to a fine cream texture in the food processor and eaten like soft-frozen ice cream. Good nutrition is more important to me! The very sound of anti-nutrients sounds threatening!!!

Hi, Patrice. That is a huge move in the right direction! In addition, please cook the tofu very, very well – at least 15 minutes to break down the anti-nutrients and make the vitamins and protein more bioavailable.

The trim Down Club doesn’t approve of soy products. If the soy beans are not GMO beans are they okay? I eat organic tofu and drink organic soy milk. Are these okay, being organic?

bravo to both of you for being vegan! It is the wave of the future. The Menu Planner contains many, many items that fit the vegan lifestyle. If you have any specific questions, just post here.

Thank you for the motivation, I didn’t think of that. There are loads of dance schools in my area so will look for the one that got moves that are managable for me, hopefully with my weight they will take me. Happy that you find the site (vegan one) useful too, it’s really great for vegans. I am hoping to be a vegan one day because I really enjoy vegan food, currently I am taking one step at a time (trying to loose weight),hopefully during the process I will ease on meat and finally get there. Currently I am 35 years old, weighing 96kg. My goal weight loss is 60kg in 6 months time. I have a big tummy too and I don’t know how much are the measurements in it, but I will work on it too. Please keep me updated on how you are getting on, I will do so too.

Thank you, Thasha, for your emails. I registered on the website you recommended for vegans. What a great resource. Thank you again. I really appreciate that recommendation. I’m only about 10-12 lbs. overweight, but it is all lose flesh that hangs around my waist and inner thighs and makes my good clothes too tight to wear anymore. I gained this weight when I became very inactive because of pinched nerves in my spinal column due to arthritis. I’m 67 years old and had always been very active, so I was amazed that suddenly, two years ago, I began to experience pain and difficulty walking. The good news is that after many months of intensive physical therapy I can begin to take walks again. I hope soon to ride a bike again, and ultimately, to ballroom dance. Which brings me back to your situation. We need to be physically active, so why don’t you try something totally new and different like square dancing or ballroom dancing. The interaction with other dancers and the festive fun of student parties is what can hook you to this healthy form of exercise! What have you got to lose???

Also you have been a vegan for 30 years what an achievement, congratulations! I envy vegans, they enjoy a good qaulity of life and are ussually in good health with a good weight, I hope one day I will follow suit. Myself I eat junk and I like meat too and I have gained a lot of weight, infact I am obese with the scare of heart attack, diebetes and other high risk disease associated with obesity from my doctor. I decided to look fore help thats why I am here. I need something to help me loose weight, but in all this I am praying to a vegetarian or vegan one day. Best wishes on your journey because you are here because you need help, I hope you will find the help you are looking for, iether here or somewhere, it doesn’t matter as long as you are going to get help, so all the best on your journey.

I am a new member coming from a disciplined family of vegans though myself I am a meat eater. I am here in this site because I like meat and food so I don’t fit in my family’s site because it’s for vegans and vegeterians, also in this site they don’t recommend using tofu, soya of which vegans stronly believes in but then ask the dieticians here at trim down they will answer you better. My family site is http://www.fredericpatenaude.com

Can I benefit from membership in the Trim Down Club if I am a VEGAN (more than 30 years now)?
