![]() | Hi, MetalRockerLion. Yes, potatoes (all types, including sweet potatoes and yams) and corn are considered starchy vegetables, as are artichokes, sunchokes (also known as Jerusalem artichokes), breadfruit, cassava , root, chestnuts, green peas, jackfruit, parsnip, salsify, and “winter” squashes such as acorn, butternut, and Hubbard. |
![]() | are starcyy vegetibles potatoes ? what else is consifered a startcy vegitable , Corn ? |
![]() | Hi Scwolterman. That really confused me too and I found this in Wikipeadia!…. While it is botanically a berry fruit, it is considered a vegetable for culinary purposes (as well as under U.S. customs regulations, see Nix v. Hedden), which has caused some confusion. |
![]() | Hi, scwolterman. Absolutely! Tomatoes are listed in the Vegetables section of the food list, and can be exchanged for other non-starchy vegetables. |
![]() | We were trying to figure out if we could substitute a tomato for another item. Can someone tell me why tomatoes are not listed in the foods list and what category it would be able to be exchanged for? |
