Coconut sugar has a lower glycemic index and is simply processed differently by the body, including the liver, which is ultimately one of the two major decision makers in terms of which sweetener is best.

Why is coconut sugar ok but honey not???

Hi, beyotravel. When you write “tear my stomach up,” I’m assuming you are referring to sugar alcohols such as xylitol. Other than that, the non-carbohydrate sweetener recommended here is monk fruit sweetener, which has less of an aftertaste than Stevia.
Honey is not recommended because it is 80% fructose, which can work against your efforts here. If you don’t mind using a carbohydrate-rich sweetener, try coconut sugar (taste similar to brown sugar, but gentler).
