![]() | Hi, NevilleH. Being on a very restrictive diet such as one that provides only 1000 calories per day, results in dramatic weight loss, but it puts your body into starvation mode. This is the reason you couldn’t lose any more (called a “plateau”). Gaining weight when returning to eating sound amounts of food is indeed very normal, and part of the process of developing a sustainable path to healthy weight loss. What can help during this stage is to engage in physical activity – even something as simple as walking, lifting water bottles in front of the television, yoga, or going dancing.
