Hi, Kathleen. This program applies approximately 1 gram of protein to each 3 grams of carbohydrates and 1 gram of fat. Meal planning on your own using the Menu Planner framework is absolutely fine. Note also that you can add “free” vegetables whenever you like.

What is the correct ratio between protein and complex carbs for each meal? Knowing that would make menu planning easier for me. Even though (or maybe because) I selected a wide range of choices for each meal/snack, some of my meal plan combinations are rather strange and off-putting. Knowing the right balance of protein and carbs would give me the flexibility to make more compatible combinations. Alternatively, can I choose foods for each meal individually with some guidance as to the right balance between protein and carbs, etc.?
