Hi, Kimber, and welcome! Just use the 21-day meals as a framework for the amount of food you should eat in a day, including the total portions of each food group. Because NYC is a very metro area, there will be ample health food stores where you can get nutritious foods – you don’t have to get exactly what is on the menu, but if you find a whole food that fits in with each food group, you’ll be fine. In addition, since you are just starting, remember that you don’t have to be perfect – just keep a couple of things in mind:
1. A trip and the holidays are about enjoying the sites and the people – food is very secondary. If it is delicious, you can get by with enough to meet your needs and just tastes of the rest.
2. Each time you go to eat or do something, think of how you can do even just a little better. Small changes add up, and may enable your new habits to become second nature without causing too much deprivation.
