Be sure the margarine is trans-fat-free, and do try to find one that incorporates canola and/or olive oil.

I am lactose intolerant and also sensitive to soy products. I read the TDC plan discourages margarine, but I found a spread that actually tastes great and doesn’t make me sick. Its the soy free version of Earth Balance. How does this rate on the plan? Yes, still processed, which isn’t ideal.
