The exact number of portions depends on your age, height, and weight, as well as other factors such as physicial activity. The general recommendations for produce are a minimum of 3 servings of fruit and 2 servings of vegetables per day (servings are about 1/2-1 cup fruit, 1/2 cup cooked vegetable, and 1 cup raw vegetable). For carbohydrates, 6-11 servings per day (1 serving is a slice of bread, 1/2 cup cooked grains such as rice and oatmeal, 3/4-1 cup breakfast cereal) – carbohydrates are your principle energy source, so your daily requirement is particularly dependent upon your daily acitivty, as well as whether or not you have health conditions such as glucose intolerance or diabetes. Protein foods such as meat and alternatives are recommended in amounts of about 4 ounces per day, and dairy about 2-3 servings per day (a portion is about 1/2-1 cup yogurt or milk, 1 oz cheese). Good fats not already in foods – up to about 1 tablespoon per day.

I like to eat fruit and veggies throughtout the day. There are fruits and veggies you can get protein from and the body breaks them down better than the protein from meat. I read that somewhere.
