Hi all fellow diabetics. I am 66 and have had diabetes type 2 for about nine years, I am on Lantus insulin which is a slow release insulin which you inject once a day, also tablets.
I started this diet on Monday and have not weighed myself yet, but I am absolutely thrilled because I have been able to reduce my insulin by 14 units a day and my tablets by one a day. My blood glucose has been not only much lower but also more stable than usual.
For me the diabetic stability is more important than the weight loss, but I am hoping to get that too. Look forward to weighing soon.

Hi, MsLile. Could you post your weight, activity level, and a sample day of the menu you got from the Menu Planner? I will run some calculations and get back to you regarding how it fits in with your needs.

Susie Baxter: First you need Faith. For all things work for good to them that love the Lord.
Next Go and buy this book. Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease, by Caldwell B. Esselstyn, Jr., MD

The Diet he recommends is for people with heart decease, but try it , it will lower you blood sugar,
and your weight. You must keep at it, with the knowledge you kids and grand kids need your love.

Thank you Ossie. Yes. My very first pass thru the menu planner gave me a 93% result so I know I’m choosing correctly for my condition and I had no trouble selecting foods but all the recipes either had dairy or nuts that I’m allergic to. If I switch out one food for another, I understand that changes the ratios and defeats the purpose of the program.

I’ve followed Dr Furhman & Dr Hyman as referred by my holistic Dr and, although I did feel better due to increased nutrient values, the carbs were just too high & the fruits & high sugar veggies contributed to another 10 lbs on my already petite frame.

I was hoping your plan had a section dedicated to diabetic & pre-diabetic conditions & that would help direct me in my weight loss goals. I don’t want to end up having to take insulin shots. “Let your food be your medicine…”

I was also interested in discussing this with your on-line consultants but your website isn’t completed for this option yet.

Suggestions? Anyone?

Hi, I’m a “Newbe” here, but not to type II diabetes. Do Not fear the carbs that are in the menu, They are either high in fiber, or are eaten with protein and high fiber items. Take the time to read all the articles and how the menu choices are made up and trust… these people know what they are talking about. My doctor is also bafeled as to how I can eat granola, dried fruit, lose 5 lbs in a week, and keep my sugars healthy. He has lowered my insulin intake and put me on just 70-30. IT’S WORKING!!! bev

Hi, Mamo. My first question in helping you is to ask if you are finding foods in the Menu Planner that suit you, while you are navigating around your allergies?

Ossie-Sharon 12 years ago

Hi, Nancy. The Meal Planner menus are overall low in carbs (less than 45% of energy), and direct you to make them very low in sugars and salt (choose the lightest blue options); the menus are also high in fiber. Overall, they are designed to balanced blood sugar and insulin and control sodium intake, and in general optimize your metabolism. In the future, we will be posting the carb content of the menu patterns and recipes.

Hi, RWhite3. All of the foods you mentioned are in the Menu Planner (potatoes at breakfast are listed as “Potato Hash Brown Crisps”, but you can substitute with another type of potato).
Try going through the planner again.

Hi, JollyJack. Be sure to complete your profile with those measurements, then enter the Menu Planner application through “Apps” above. The program will walk you through the process of building a diet with daily menus.

I failed to mention that I have already lost 74 lbs. before finding this program, but I lost it by mainly not eating. So I joined to learn to eat in a healthy way and to lose the last 20 pounds. I am heading to the grocery store this afternoon to find some of these foods and embark on a new way of eating as a type 2 diabetic. Wish me luck! Nancy

Ossie–
Do Not know if You are the Person to talk to or Not? I have tried to use the “Meal Planner” Several times but NONE of the Food’s listed on the Planner are things that I eat!! Most of time I cook for Myself since My Wife works & I’m retired. Eggs & potatoes for Breakfast + coffee; Fish & Green Beans for Lunch & for evening Meal what every My Wife feels like cooking {ect. Pancakes to night}. Maybe once or twice a month we might Have beef or Chicken it just depends. So how to Fill Out “meal Planner” I do NOT know, since those food’s are not Listed. Only food What I call “Fancy Foods” are listed, not just “plane foods”. So what to do?
