Compared to cow’s milk, almond milk is the much healthier choice. Almond milk contains a wide variety of the vitamins and minerals that your body needs to function. Almond milk also contains high levels of antioxidants, so it can help prevent many types of cancer and slow the signs of aging. Almond milk is also great for those who can’t drink cow’s milk due to lactose intolerance, or a casein or gluten allergy; however, those with tree nut allergies should avoid almond milk because it could elicit a dangerous allergic reaction.

Whole cow’s milk contains a lot more calories and fat than almond milk, making almond milk the better choice for those on a diet. Cow’s milk also contains saturated fat and cholesterol; almond milk is free of both saturated fat and cholesterol, making it a healthier choice, especially for those with heart problems.

While cow’s milk contains high levels of calcium, and is fortified with vitamins A and D to help you meet your daily requirements of these vitamins, almond milk contains high levels of a wide range of necessary vitamins and therefore has a higher nutritional value than cow’s milk. The only thing that cow’s milk has more of than almond milk is protein; cow’s milk has eight grams of protein per serving while almond milk has only one gram per serving.

Almond milk is also WAY lower in fat than whole milk and has more nutritional value than cow’s milk.

I’m not a nutritionist, but i like to give my opinion based on research & experience. Having milk on the menu is for calcium purposes. Unsweetened almond milk (Like the SILK brand), actually has more calcium in it than whole milk.
I think it’s a great alternative. I still let my daughters drink cow’s milk, but i have switched to Almond milk.

I use Unsweetened Almond milk…… is this an acceptable substitute for the milk in the first weeks?

marianntibbetts- Sugar has always been my vice. I thought i was going to lose my mind without it. Although I’ve almost eliminated it completely, I love my coffee & refuse to drink it black. So I use sugar free creamer. I don’t feel guilty about it because it’s the only sugar free product i use so it’s not like i’m filling my body with artificial sweeteners all of the time. You could also try Almond milk w/ pure vanilla extract.
Also, don’t fear making your own sauce. That is the healthiest way to do it. I’m no master chef, so i was a little nervous about trying to create my own healthy foods but now i love it. Yesterday i made my own thousand island dressing with Plain greek yogurt, tomato paste, capers, a little vinegar, onion powder & garlic powder. I t was delicious. I have found a lot of good recipes on the recipe tab of this site and also on Pintrest.
And don’t overwhelm yourself right away with pairing. That got me no where in the beginning. So i focused more on just the simple rule of eating healthier than i have in the past. More fruits, more veggies, no processed foods, no sugar & only ‘whole’ grain products.
I’ve lost 9lbs in the past month. It may not seem like much but it makes a big difference.

Have done some research and apparently Yeo Valley Butter and Yogurts are made from the milk of cows grazed on at least 60% grass

This is my first week trying to eliminate sugar from my diet. I notice that my cravings have disappeared! What do people suggest to sweeten coffee? (I’m not willing to tackle my caffeine addiction at the same time.) Is honey OK?

Any suggestions for tomato based pasta sauce that doesn’t contain sugar? After searching the shelves in my small town supermarket, I fear that I’ll have to make my own from now on.

I am trying to figure out some of the food pairings that are important…Fruit should be eaten with protein?…carbs are better when paired with – what?…I want a few more rules to remember instead of just following a preplanned menu.

Those of you who have been eating the “trimdownclub” way can be really helpful to a newbie like me. Thanks.

Light Yogurt or Flavoured Yogurt

Doing this alone is challenging. I will be wasting food if I buy this variety. I don’t mind repeating foods especially at the cost of food. I need to know if I can substitute fruits and nuts. I can freeze nuts but not fresh fruit.
