Hi, Jewel. While one of the omega-6s is essential (linoleic acid) and a couple of special forms have unique health benefits, the modern western diet is considered to be much too high in linoleic acid, which has been linked to inflammation and other health problems more than “omega-5” fatty acids. If you would like to post the link to the video, I would be happy to review it and get back to you here.

On a lighter note, ( my husband, who is wonderful in many ways! ) has just suggested omega 5 1/2 as a compromise! Seriously, that’s an interesting point

This advice confuses me, because I just watched a video on here about how Omega 6 fats are so much better than Omega 5. Did I misunderstand?

Thanks very much for your advice Ossie-Sharon. Such a change to have positive help. Most slimming clubs have no real contingency for physical problems other than Intolerances.

Hi, erylsimms. I suggest to have a back-up plan for when you have flares and are probably less active, while taking medications that may slow your metabolism. Focus on sources of omega-3 fats such as fatty fish, almonds, kale, flax, and chia, and cut down on omega-6 fats from cheap oils such as soy and corn. In addition, you may wish to consider cutting down or out starchy foods, particularly grains, which can be pro-inflammatory in some people – trade them for high-antioxidant vegetables, if you like them.

Hi, I am a new member and the diet was going well until my arthritis flared up. I then had to take painkillers and the weight went back on!
Any suggestions?
