Can someone let me know if exercise helps increase pain resistance?

Hello. I was on the bus the other day and overheard someone say that exercising can help with increasing your pain tolerance. Can this actually be true? Or is it a myth?

There is a sense in which exercise truly increases your pain resistance. Exercise causes endorphins to be released into the body. This natural substance can reduce pain perception making you more pain resistant while it is in your bloodstream.
